ABC-I provided consulting services to support ‘Oxfam International’ in the development of an agricultural extension system for Tajik small holder farmers. Establishing such a service is an important component of the project “Growth in Rural Economy and Agriculture in Tajikistan” (GREAT), funded by DFID and implemented by a number of international organizations, including ‘Oxfam International’ Programme. The ‘GREAT’ project supports development of the Tajik agricultural sector, to reduce rural poverty through inclusive economic growth in rural areas.

ABC-I assisted Oxfam with the development of structures to facilitate small holder farmers’ access to agricultural consulting services. The module of the system focused on self-sustainability of the services (fee based), linked to tri-lateral implementation structures between ‘Community Based Organizations’ (CBO = village advisory model established by ‘Oxfam International’), professional agronomy service providers and small holder farmers. Activities focused strongly on women producer groups, and supported farmers in improving business planning for their agricultural productions (Tech Card calculations). ABC-I delivered extensive knowhow and implemented training programs in the Khatlon Region of Tajikistan.
