stephanStephan Henggeler

Managing Director and Chairman of the Board

Stephan holds a Masters in Agricultural Science from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland (M.Ag.Sc. ETH, 1986).

Following his graduation, Stephan was appointed as a consultant to the government of the state of Zurich, Switzerland to help develop strategies and extension programs reducing negative impacts from the use of agricultural fertilizers on water resources. As part of his assignment he headed a team of scientists and engineers to establish a state of the art soil research laboratory.

In 1992, Stephan emigrated with his wife and three young girls to Australia where he accepted a position with Auscott Limited, the Australian subsidiary of the Californian J.G. Boswell Group, one of the world's largest private cotton producers. Within a short time, Stephan was promoted from agronomist to assistant general manger overseeing a 4000 hectare irrigation farm and 200'000 bale capacity cotton gin. He was responsible for around 100 staff, assets to the value of AUD 50m and an annual operating budget of AUD 14m.

Stephan started his own consulting business in 2003 specialising in organisational optimisation, development, implementation and accreditation of management systems for quality assurance, workplace safety, food safety and environmental management and he continues to provide consulting services to the agricultural sector. His risk and compliance management system STARYS Manager is used by businesses ranging from small enterprises to multinational corporations in Australia, China and Europe.

In 2009, after selling STARYS Manager, Stephan and his family returned to Switzerland, where he took on a temporary assignment reorganizing an SME in the chemical sector. At the same time he and his wife founded a successful and fast growing service business with currently 30 employees.

In 2013 Stephan became a founding member, managing director and chairman of the board of abc-i. His broad experience in business management, organization, risk management, value chain development, communication, R&D and agronomy make him the perfect choice to lead our young organization toward a prosperous future.
